Team Aguri's last ever ePrix will be this weekend's London ePrix

It was announced this afternoon that this weekend's London ePrix will be Team Aguri's final race in Formula E, having agreed the sale of its licence to new investors.

The outfit was the sixth of 10 founding teams to join the FIA Formula E Championship, having been created by Aguri Suzuki and Mark Preston in November 2013.

Team Aguri quickly got up to speed in the all-electric racing series and secured their maiden win in only the fourth round of the inaugural Formula E season. The team ended the 2014/15 Season in seventh place, with a total of 66 points.

The squad has shown its technological prowess again this season with a number of impressive performances extracted from the upgraded Season One powertrain.

In a statement to the media this afternoon, Mark Preston, Team Principal of Team Aguri had the following to say about Team Aguri's last race ever this weekend in London:-

I am proud to say that Team Aguri can be considered true pioneers in the development of electric vehicles, pioneering new technologies and showcasing them to the world.

While this is the final chapter in Team Aguri's history in the FIA Formula E Championship, this also represents the start of something new, with the sale of the team to new investors. As such, this will be the final race for Team Aguri and I would like to thank all involved for their hard work and dedication over the past two seasons.

In his own statement to the media this afternoon, Marc Faggionato, Team Aguri Owner added the following shortly after the announcement:-

Team Aguri has established a reputation as an outfit known for its technological excellence, dedication to innovation and has become a firm fan favourite. I would like to thank all involved, from our staff, to our partners and our fans – all of whom have been integral to our successes. I wish our staff and the new owners the very best of luck for the future.

Team Aguri currently lies in eighth position in the Constructors Championship, on 24 points, with the final two rounds remaining.

But for me personally, I have to thank Team Aguri for everything that they have done for me as a fan of the Formula E series by following and interacting with me regularly on Twitter and also as a Formula E journalist with Driving For Pleasure which has led to myself being asked by Ignite Liverpool to produce a five minute presentation on the series.

Even though my talk on Formula E for Ignite Liverpool is not until Wednesday 27th July; Team Aguri has helped me so much to prepare for the talk by answering all of my questions to do with the presentation I will be giving and showing their support every step of the way which I massively appreciate personally and professionally.

All I want to say finally is that Team Aguri may no longer be with us after this weekend and I am heartbroken. But thank you for the memories you have given myself personally and professionally but more importantly to the rest of the Formula E fans around the world, you will be missed massively and I will do the team and its legacy proud on Wednesday 27th July where I will be giving my Ignite Liverpool presentation with pride, passion and commitment which you cannot deny Team Aguri has never been short of.
