Sebastian Vettel leads a Ferrari 1-2 at the first practice session in Barcelona

In the first practice session in Barcelona, Sebastian Vettel set the pace ahead of his team mate Kimi Raikkonen and Nico Rosberg, even though Ferrari and Vettel set this time after using a quicker tyre than any other team.

With Daniil Kvyat being recalled back to Toro Rosso and Max Verstappen being promoted to Red Bull during the off period between the Russian Grand Prix and the Spanish Grand Prix, there was increased attention on the Red Bull and Toro Rosso drivers.

Also we had Esteban Ocon making his FP1 debut with Renault who has impressed me greatly since winning the GP3 championship last season with his speed, maturity and his attitude on the track.

In the latter stages of FP1, Vettel did stop at the end of the pit lane, but it appeared the Ferrari driver had simply missed the red light rather than suffered any issue.

But it was Sebastian Vettel who was fastest with a lap time of 1.23.951 ahead of his team mate Kimi Raikkonen in second place who was 0.138 seconds behind him and ahead of Nico Rosberg in third place who was 0.503 seconds behind Vettel.

Lewis Hamilton finished the session in fourth place ahead of Daniel Ricciardo in fifth place, Max Verstappen in sixth place, Valtteri Bottas in seventh place, Carlos Sainz Jr in eighth place, Felipe Massa in ninth place and Fernando Alonso who rounded off the top ten finishers.

Kevin Magnussen ended the session in eleventh place ahead of Daniil Kvyat in twelfth place, Nico Hulkenberg in thirteenth place, Sergio Perez in fourteenth place and Felipe Nasr in fifteenth place.

As we head into the latter stages of the grid, Romain Grosjean ended the session in sixteenth place ahead of Esteban Gutierrez in seventeenth place, Marcus Ericsson in eighteenth place, Jenson Button in nineteenth place, Pascal Wehrlein in twentieth place and Rio Haryanto in twenty-first place. Esteban Ocon did not set a time in the session. **
