Sebastian Vettel claims his first Pole for Ferrari at the Singapore GP

During Qualifying for the Singapore this afternoon (evening in Singapore) Sebastian Vettel lead his team mate Kimi Raikkonen for a Ferrari 1-2 finish ahead of Red Bull driver Daniil Kvyat in a session where the Mercedes drivers were over a second off the pace.

At the end of Q2, Carlos Sainz Jr hit the wall at Turn 19 and damaging his rear left side of the car which in turn left debris on the track. This then brought out the double yellow flags as Sainz Jr limped back to the pit lane in order to assess the damage onto his car.

But it was Sebastian Vettel who claimed his first Pole Position for the Ferrari at the Singapore GP with a lap time of 1.43.885. This has brought to an end of a run of Mercedes dominance of Pole Positions on a Saturday since the first time since the beginning of 2014. It is also Ferrari’s first Pole Position at the event since 2010.

Vettel was ahead of Daniel Ricciardo who qualified in second place who was 0.543 seconds behind him but was ahead of his team mate Kimi Raikkonen who qualified in third place who was 0.782 seconds behind the Ferrari of Vettel.

Daniil Kvyat finished the session in fourth place ahead of Lewis Hamilton in fifth place, Nico Rosberg in sixth place and Valtteri Bottas seventh place. Max Verstappen ended the session in eighth place ahead of his team mate Felipe Massa in ninth place and Romain Grosjean who rounds off the top ten finishers.

Valtteri Bottas ended the session in eleventh place ahead of Nico Hulkenberg in twelfth place, Jenson Button in thirteenth place, Felipe Massa in fourteenth place and Pastor Maldonado in fifteenth place.

As we head into the latter stages of the grid, Felipe Nasr qualified in sixteenth place ahead of his team mate Marcus Ericsson in seventeenth place, Pastor Maldonado in eighteenth place and the two Manor drivers of Will Stevens and Alexander Rossi finishing in nineteenth and twentieth places.
