After 5 years of attending Techno Classica Essen, which last year clashed with Stuttgart, we decided to visit the home of Porsche and Mercedes to sample this popular event.
Chosen as “Show of the Year” in the Historic Motoring Awards in 2018, this show covers 140,000 square meters in a stunning modern Exhibition Centre with 10 halls offering everything the motoring enthusiast could wish to see.
Situated adjoining Stuttgart Airport, the exhibition centre is easily accessible, and there are private sellers outside on the immaculate paved areas to greet visitors to the centre.
Obviously there are Porsche and Mercedes cars a plenty on show, but just about every other marque is represented, we even saw an exceptional Rover P5 restoration and a Bugatti Chiron. You name it, you can find it somewhere in the show. Some of the restorations are simply stunning.
There is a dedicated parts and spares hall, an Italian hall, coaches, motorbikes and sidecars, tractors and agricultural machinery and a great US section with some of the latest muscle cars on show. There was even a collection of old F1 cars and Rally cars a plenty scattered throughout the Halls.
An altogether more relaxed experience than Essen, but both are unique and either one well worth a visit if you love all things motoring related. Keep a look out for the 2020 dates.
