Last night Force India and Paul DiResta were summoned to the stewards, as the car was under weight after qualifying. After further inspection from the FIA, they checked this again and found the the car was indeed breaching article 26.1 of the FIA sporting regulations. Whats more this offence also breached article 4.1 of the FIA technical regulations, which carries more severe penalties.
Breaching the sporting regulations often incurs a time penalty, grid penalty or something of this nature. However breaching a technical regulation means exclusion from the session. This is not the first time this has happened, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel have both been faced with this situation before after a qualifying session. Both these circumstances were due to the fuel level.
In terms of a car being under weight, you may remember when BAR Honda were disqualified after the San Marino Grand Prix in 2004 for an under weight car. They also received a two race ban for Spain and Germany, this meant Jenson Button was in the ITV commentary box with James Allan and Martin Brundle.
This weekend Force India and Paul DiResta are disqualified for the car being under weight, but they will start the British Grand Prix from the back of the grid. Not ideal considering his excellent qualifying performance.
