This afternoon in Barcelona, Nico Rosberg took his first Pole Position of the 2015 season ahead of his team mate Lewis Hamilto and Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel.
In an qualifying session that saw Force India especially struggling for balance and grip, the battle was on between the two Mercedes drivers and Sebastian Vettel at the front of the grid and the battle between Williams, Toro Rosso and Red Bull in the midfield.
But it was Nico Rosberg who topped the timesheets and gained his first Pole Position of the season and Mercedes' 16th consecutive Pole Position in F1 with a laptime of 1.24.681 ahead of his team mate Lewis Hamilton in second place who was 0.267 seconds off his pace but was ahead of Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel in third place who was 0.7 seconds off the pace of Rosberg.
Valtteri Bottas finished the session in fourth place ahead of Toro Rosso rookie Carlos Sainz Jr who qualified fifth at his home Grand Prix ahead of his team mate Max Verstappen in sixth place and Kimi Raikkonen who qualified in seventh place. Daniil Kvyat qualified after all his engine troubles in eighth place ahead of Felipe Massa in ninth place and his team mate Daniel Ricciardo who rounded off the top ten finishers.
Romain Grosjean qualified in eleventh place ahead of his team mate Pastor Maldonado in twelfth place, the McLaren-Honda drivers of Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button in thirteenth and fourteenth places and Felipe Nasr who ended qualifying in fifteenth place.
As we head into the latter stages of the grid, Marcus Ericsson qualified in sixteenth place ahead of the Force India drivers of Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez who are struggling a lot this weekend but were ahead of the two Manor F1 drivers of Will Stevens and Roberto Merhi who qualified in nineteenth and twentieth places.
