In the first FP1 session in Singapore, Nico Rosberg topped the timesheets ahead of his team mate Lewis Hamilton and Daniel Ricciardo and is showing that he cannot be discounted for the championship as of yet.
During FP1, we saw in the last ten minutes of the session Sebastian Vettel understeering going into Turn 5 after hitting the kerb too hard. Luckily Vettel was able to catch the car and cause no damage and was able to continue on the track.
However, Alexander Rossi at the end of the session clouted the barriers at Turn 18 and caused significant damage to his right hand suspension. At this point in the session, Rossi was doing brilliantly and was only 0.015 seconds behind his team mate Will Stevens. This then brought out the red flag in order to clear the damage but the session did not restart as a result.
But it was Nico Rosberg who topped the timesheets with a lap time of 1.47.955 ahead of his team mate Lewis Hamilton in second place who was 0.319 seconds behind him but was ahead of Daniel Ricciardo who finished in third place who was 0.336 seconds behind the Mercedes of Rosberg.
Sebastian Vettel finished the session in fourth place ahead of his team mate Kimi Raikkonen in fifth place, Valtteri Bottas in sixth place and Max Verstappen in seventh place. Nico Hulkenberg ended the session in eighth place ahead of his team mate Carlos Sainz Jr in ninth place and Pastor Maldonado who rounds off the top ten finishers.
Fernando Alonso ended the session in eleventh place ahead of Sergio Perez in twelfth place, Felipe Nasr in thirteenth place, Romain Grosjean in fourteenth place and Jenson Button in fifteenth place.
As we head into the latter stages of the grid, Marcus Ericsson finished the session in sixteenth place ahead of Felipe Massa in seventeenth place, Daniil Kvyat in eighteenth place and the two Manor drivers of Will Stevens and Alexander Rossi finishing in nineteenth and twentieth places.
