Nico Rosberg claims his third Pole Position of the season at the Russian GP

In qualifying for the Russian GP yesterday, Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg claimed his third pole position of the year ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.

However, everyone's thoughts are with Carlos Sainz Jr as he suffered a heavy accident at Turn 13 in the final part of yesterday's FP3 session which stopped the session as a result; due to getting him out of the car, clearing the debris and also fixing the barriers.
It was also announced before the session that Carlos Sainz Jr would not be taking part in qualifying as a result of the accident he had in the latter stages of the FP3 session earlier yesterday morning.

But it was Nico Rosberg who topped the timesheets with a lap time of 1.38.561 ahead of Lewis Hamilton in second place who was 0.320 seconds behind him but was ahead of Valtteri Bottas who finished in third place who was 0.799 seconds behind the Mercedes of Rosberg

Sebastian Vettel finished the session in fourth place ahead of Kimi Raikkonen in fifth place, Nico Hulkenberg in sixth place, Sergio Perez in seventh place, Romain Grosjean in eighth place, Max Verstappen in ninth place and Daniel Ricciardo who rounded off the top ten finishers of the session.

Daniil Kvyat qualified in eleventh place ahead of Felipe Nasr in twelfth place, Jenson Button in thirteenth place, Pastor Maldonado in fourteenth place and Felipe Massa in fifteenth place who had a dreadful qualifying session.
