Marquez Ends Lorenzo Run With Aragon Victory

After losing the lead to the Yamaha rider, Marquez managed to pass Lorenzo late on and stayed ahead to record his sixth victory, in his rookie season.

Dani Pedrosa's rotten luck continued as he crashed out on lap six after battling with teammate Marquez.

The 20 year-old clipped the back of Pedrosa's Honda, damaging the traction control in the process. Pedrosa then high-sided out of the very next corner ending his race and possibly his championship challenge.

“I’m sorry for that – it’s something very unusual to see,” said Marquez.
“The important thing is that Dani is OK.”

Valentino Rossi profited from Pedrosa's accident to claim his fourth podium ahead of Alvaro Bautista, Sefan Bradl and Britain's Cal Crutchlow.

Marquez, aiming to be the first man to claim the title in his debut season since Kenny Roberts Snr in 1978, started on pole but fell behind Lorenzo and Pedrosa early on. He battled his Repsol Honda teammate for another six laps before the pair tangled, ending Pedrosa's race.

Despite running off the track, in the incident, Marquez hunted down Lorenzo and got past the defending champion with ten laps to go. Lorenzo had no answer and the win now opens Marquez's championship lead to 39 points with four races left.

There was action behind the front two, as a four bike scrap for third was won by Valentino Rossi. The nine-time world champion held off a feisty Alvaro Bautista, who spent the final lap holding off Stefan Bradl and Cal Crutchlow.

In two weeks' time the riders will be in the heat of Sepang, Malaysia, which was won in the rain by Pedrosa last year.
