Lewis Hamilton remains quickest in FP2 in Hungary

In the second practice session at Hungary this afternoon, Lewis Hamilton remained top of the timesheets once again ahead of the Red Bull drivers of Daniil Kvyat and Daniel Ricciardo.

Before the start of FP2, the Force India team has announced that they have withdrawn from the second Formula 1 practice session ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix as the team investigates the cause of Sergio Perez's FP1 crash.

Perez had just emerged from the exit of the Turn 11 right-hander and was on the rumble strip when the rear snapped on him and pitched the Mexican into a spin. Replays suggested this was caused by a failure in the right-rear suspension, although this has yet to be confirmed by the team as of yet.

We saw in the session Sebastian Vettel spinning his Ferrari in Turn 12 after losing the rear end; but he was able to continue on during the session. However, in the final ten minutes of the session, Vettel once again spun for the same reason but spun at the first corner.

But in the last twenty minutes of the session, Daniel Ricciardo's engine went up in smoke at Turn 11 which then brought out the red flags while the car was recovered by the marshals.

But it was Lewis Hamilton who topped the timesheets with a lap time of 1.23.949 ahead of Daniil Kvyat in second place who was 0.35`1 seconds behind him but was ahead of his team mate Daniel Ricciardo despite what happened to him during the session in third place who was 0.502 seconds behind the Mercedes of Hamilton.

Nico Rosberg finished the session in fourth place ahead of Kimi Raikkonen in fifth place, Carlos Sainz Jr in sixth place and Sebastian Vettel in seventh place. Sebastian Vettel ended the session in seventh place despite what happened to him during the session ahead of Fernando Alonso in eighth place and he was ahead of the two Williams drivers of Valtteri Bottas and Massa Massa who rounded off the top ten finishers in the session.

Max Verstappen ended the session in eleventh place ahead of Jenson Button in twelfth place, Pastor Maldonado in thirteenth place, Felipe Nasr in fourteenth place and Romain Grosjean in fifteenth place. As we head into the latter stages of the grid, Marcus Ericsson finished the session in sixteenth place ahead of the Manor F1 drivers of Roberto Merhi in seventeenth place and Will Stevens in eighteenth place.

Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg did not take part in the session due to safety issues after Perez's crash in FP1 which the team wanted to investigate fully before putting both of their drivers back in the cars and rightly so.
