Lewis Hamilton remains quickest in a wet-weathered FP2 session in Montreal

This afternoon in wet-weather session in Montreal, Lewis Hamilton topped the timesheets ahead of the Ferrari drivers of Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen.

During the session, we saw Lewis Hamilton being very lucky not to hit the Lotus of Romain Grosjean as they both headed into the final corner. Grosjean was going slowly in order to give himself space; while Hamilton was preparing himself for a hot lap and was very lucky not to hit Grosjean and was able to continue running in the session.

We also saw Nico Hulkenberg suffering a left rear puncture on the track after not hitting any walls on his lap. The Pirelli tyres of Hulkenberg did not look good on the TV pictures and Pirelli have stated that the rim of the tyre blew out to loss of pressure and that is very unusual without hitting anything. Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton during one of his laps in the session was very lucky not to hit the 'Wall of Champions' after taking too much kerb and had four wheels of his car off the ground!

With 55 minutes left of the session, rain hit the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and Daniil Kvyat is suffering with a brake problem on his RB11; with the team now investigating and trying to resolve the issue for the rest of the session. Hamilton did go out onto the wet track with the wrong tyres and tried to stop the car after going into Turn 10 and went straight into the wall after aquaplaning.

This then brought out the red flag while his Mercedes was being recovered by the marshals and we did not see any other running taking place on the track for the rest of the session as the rain hit the Montreal circuit.

But it was Lewis Hamilton despite his troubles who topped the timesheets with a laptime of 1.15.988 ahead of Sebastian Vettel who finished in second place 0.316 seconds behind him but was ahead of his team mate Kimi Raikkonen in third place who was 0.322 seconds behind the Mercedes of Hamilton.

Nico Rosberg finished the session in fourth place ahead of Pastor Maldonado in fifth place, Valtteri Bottas in sixth place and Romain Grosjean in seventh place. Felipe Massa had a great session and was eighth ahead of Daniil Kvyat in ninth place and Daniel Ricciardo who rounded off the top ten finishers.

Nico Hulkenberg ended the session in eleventh place ahead of Marcus Ericsson in twelfth place, Carlos Sainz Jr in thirteenth place, Sergio Perez in fourteenth place and Fernando Alonso in fifteenth place.

As we head into the latter stages of the grid, Max Verstappen finished the session in sixteenth place ahead of Felipe Nasr in seventeenth place, Jenson Button in eighteenth place and ahead of the two Manor F1 drivers of Roberto Merhi and Will Stevens who ended the session in nineteenth and twentieth place.
