Lewis Hamilton remains at the top of the timesheets in the second Practice session in Melbourne

In the second practice session in Melbourne, Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton topped the timesheets ahead of Force India driver Nico Hulkenberg and Ferrari drive Kimi Raikkonen as Nico Rosberg crashes during the rain-filled session.

Like in FP1, the session was was disrupted by intermittent showers meaning that the drivers were not able to complete any laps on the slicks. But the majority of the field completed a handful of laps each on the intermediate tyres as they tip-toed around the slippy Albert Park circuit.

Just after 30 minutes into the session, Nico Rosberg lost control of his Mercedes going through Turns 7 and 8 and hit the barriers which then forced his front wing to come off and be stuck under the car. Rosberg tried to get back to the pits but his team on the radio told to “-.Stop and pull over.”

But it was Lewis Hamilton who was fastest with a lap time of 1.38.841 ahead of Nico Hulkenberg in second place who was 0.467 seconds behind him and ahead of Kimi Raikkonen in third place who was 0.645 seconds behind Hamilton.

Daniel Ricciardo ended the session in fourth place ahead of Carlos Sainz Jr in fifth place, Fernando Alonso in sixth place, Jenson Button in seventh place, Sebastian Vettel in eighth place, Sergio Perez in ninth place and Daniil Kvyat who rounded off the top ten finishers.

Esteban Gutierrez ended the session in eleventh place ahead of Manor rookie Pascal Wehrlein in twelfth place, Romain Grosjean in thirteenth place, Rio Haryanto in fourteenth place and Nico Rosberg in fifteenth place.

Kevin Magnussen, Jolyon Palmer, Felipe Massa, Valtteri Bottas, Felipe Nasr, Max Verstappen and Marcus Ericsson did not set a time.
