Lewis Hamilton remains at the top of the timesheets in FP2 in Monaco

Lewis Hamilton remained at the top of the timesheet in FP2 and was quickest ahead of his team mate Nico Rosberg and Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel.

During the first fifteen minutes of the session, we saw Kimi Raikkonen going wide at Sainte Devote, Sebastian Vettel and Pastor Maldonado going wide into the escape road after locking up their front left tyres as they both headed into the Mirabeau corner but both were able to continue on during the session.

We also heard that Sauber driver Marcus Ericsson has got power unit problems with his car and with the help of some Ferrari mechanics; they tried to sort the issue out but sadly, he didn't run in the session today as a result of it.

Manor F1 driver Roberto Merhi crashed into the barriers after locking up his front left tyres under braking after coming out of the tunnel and hit the bump present on the track. There was nothing Merhi could do when his front right tyre hit the barriers and he lost his front wing as a result of this; thereby bringing out the red flag so that the car could be recovered and leaving his team with a lot of work to do in order to get the car ready for qualifying on Saturday.

Just before an hour had passed into the session, rain hit the Monaco circuit which was predicted by the weather forecasts; even though it is expected that qualifying and the race on Sunday will be dry.

Meanwhile, Lotus driver Pastor Maldonado just after the rain began to hit the Monte Carlo circuit decided to go out on supersoft tyres to see exactly just how bad the rain was. Maldonado tiptoed around the circuit and was lucky not to hit the barrier at the Loews hairpin and got back to the pits.

Ten minutes before the end of the session when the rain eased up, Fernando Alonso was the first car out on the track, followed by the rest of the field. But it was Lewis Hamilton that topped the timesheets with a laptime of a 1.17.192 ahead of his team mate Nico Rosberg who was 0.746 seconds behind him but he was ahead of Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel who was 1.103 seconds off the pace of Hamilton.

Kimi Raikkonen ended the session in fourth place ahead of Daniil Kvyat in fifth place, Carlos Sainz Jr in sixth place and Max Verstappen in seventh place. Fernando Alonso finished the session in eighth place ahead of Nico Hulkenberg in ninth place and Romain Grosjean who rounded off the top ten finishers.

Sergio Perez ended the session in eleventh place ahead of Felipe Massa in twelfth place, Valtteri Bottas in thirteenth place, Pastor Maldonado in fourteenth place and Jenson Button in fifteenth place.

As we head into the latter stages of the grid, Daniel Ricciardo finished the session in sixteenth place ahead of Felipe Nasr in seventeenth place and ahead of the Manor F1 drivers of Roberto Merhi and Will Stevens who ended the session in eighteenth and nineteenth places. Marcus Ericsson did not run in the session.
