Lewis Hamilton is quickest in FP1 in Italy

In the first FP1 session in Monza, Lewis Hamilton topped the timesheets ahead of his team mate Nico Rosberg and Sebastian Vettel and has carried on where he left off in Belgium two weeks ago.

During the session, we saw Carlos Sainz Jr spinning off the circuit at the Parabolica corner. Sainz Jr suffered with gearbox problems during the session as he headed to brake at the Parabolica corner, the car spun at the rear, beeched him into the gravel and he had to jump out of the car as a result of this. Sainz Jr got out of the car okay and the session was red flag in order to recover Sainz Jr’s Toro Rosso.

We also saw in the last ten minutes of the session Felipe Massa going off the track at the second Lesmo corner but was able to continue on during the session and we also saw Sebastian Vettel spinning at Turn 1 but was able to get going again.

But it was Lewis Hamilton who topped the timesheets with a lap time of 1.24.670. ahead of his team mate Nico Rosberg in second place who was 0.463 seconds behind him but was ahead of Sebastian Vettel who finished in third place who was 1.588 seconds behind the Mercedes of Hamilton.

Nico Hulkenberg finished the session in fourth place ahead of his team mate Aergio Perez in fifth place, Kimi Raikkonen in sixth place and Daniel Ricciardo in seventh place. Felipe Massa ended the session in eighth place ahead of his team mate Valteri Bottas in ninth place and Pastor Maldonado who rounds off the top ten finishers.

Fellipe Nasr ended the session in eleventh place ahead of Daniil Kvyat in twelfth place, Marcus Ericsson in thirteenth place, Max Verstappen in fourteenth place and Jolyon Palmer in fifteenth place.

As we head into the latter stages of the grid, Carlos Sainz Jr finished the session in sixteenth place despite his spin on the track ahead of Fernando Alonso in seventeenth place, Jenson Button in eighteenth place and the two Manor drivers of Will Stevens and Roberto Merhi finishing in nineteenth and twentieth places.
