This afternoon in Monaco, Lewis Hamilton took the first Pole Position of his career for the Monaco Grand Prix ahead of his team mate Nico Rosberg and Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel.
In Q1, Nico Hulkenberg hit his Force India into the wall into Mirabeau corner. Hulkenberg and the car was okay but he managed to get back to the pits. Also, Carlos Sainz Jr was being investigated for failing to stop at the weighbridge by the FIA.
During Q2, McLaren-Honda driver Fernando Alonso stopped on the circuit after experiencing an mechanical failure in his MP4-30 and ended his session early, whereas Nico Rosberg heading into Sainte Devote locked his tyres massively which brought out the yellow flags and compromised Jenson Button's lap.
There were spots of rain present in Q3 but it was Lewis Hamilton who got his first Pole Position at the Monte Carlo circuit with a great laptime of 1.15.098 ahead of his team mate Nico Rosberg in second place who was 0.342 seconds behind him. But Rosberg finished ahead of Sebastian Vettel in third place who was 0.751 seconds off the pace of Hamilton.
Daniel Ricciardo finished the session in fourth place ahead of Daniil Kvyat in fifth place, Kimi Raikkonen in sixth place and Sergio Perez in seventh place who put in a great lap.
Carlos Sainz Jr qualified in eighth place ahead of Pastor Maldonado who for the first time in this season has out-qualified his team mate in ninth place and Max Verstappen who rounded off the top ten finishers.
Romain Grosjean ended the session in eleventh place ahead of Jenson Button in twelfth place, Nico Hulkenberg in thirteenth place, Felipe Massa who has struggled all the weekend in fourteenth place and Fernando Alonso in fifteenth place.
As we head into the latter stages of the grid, Felipe Nasr finished the session in sixteenth place ahead of Valtteri Bottas in seventeenth place who was the biggest shock of the session and has struggled all weekend, as has Marcus Ericsson in eighteenth place who was ahead of the two Manor F1 drivers of Will Stevens and Roberto Merhi who ended the session in nineteenth and twentieth place.
