Lewis Hamilton claims pole in Spain

Lewis Hamilton steals Pole Position for the Spanish GP ahead of his team mate

In Qualifying for the Spanish GP in Barcelona yesterday, Lewis Hamilton claimed Pole Position with a brilliant lap ahead of his team mate Nico Rosberg and Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo.

With Rosberg topping the timesheets in Q1 and Hamilton topping the timesheets in Q2; all eyes were upon both of the drivers heading into Q3 and with many of us wondering if this is the weekend where Hamilton's challenge to close the gap to his team mate is going to take charge

In a battle for Pole Position, both of the Mercedes drivers made mistakes on their first runs in Q3, with Hamilton locking his brakes heavily at Turn 10. But it was Lewis Hamilton who was fastest and claimed Pole Position for the Spanish GP with a lap time of 1.22.000 ahead of his team mate Nico Rosberg in second place who was 0.280 seconds behind him and ahead of Daniel Ricciardo in third place who was 0.680 seconds behind Hamilton.

Max Verstappen ended the session in a brilliant fourth place ahead of Kimi Raikkonen in fifth place, Sebastian Vettel in sixth place, Valtteri Bottas in seventh place, Carlos Sainz Jr in eighth place, Sergio Perez in ninth place and Fernando Alonso who rounded off the top ten finishers.

Nico Hulkenberg qualified just out of the top ten in eleventh place ahead of Jenson Button in twelfth place, Daniil Kvyat in thirteenth place, Romain Grosjean in fourteenth place and Kevin Magnussen in fifteenth place.

As we head into the latter stages of the grid, Esteban Gutierrez qualified for the race in sixteenth place ahead of Jolyon Palmer in seventeenth place, Felipe Massa in eighteenth place, Marcus Ericsson in nineteenth place, Felipe Nasr in twentieth place and the two Manor drivers of Pascal Wehrlein and Rio Haryanto complete the field.
