Lewis Hamilton bounces back from engine troubles to being the quickest in FP2 in Malaysia
This morning or Friday afternoon in Malaysia, Lewis Hamilton topped the timesheets after suffering with an engine inlet problem in Practice 1 to finish ahead of Kimi Raikkonen and his team mate Nico Rosberg.
Before the start of Practice 2, it was announced that an engine inlet issue affected Hamilton during Practice 1. As a result of this, Hamilton has not changed his engine. Also, Felipe Massa has been given a suspended fine from the stewards after failing to take the extra set of tyres given to all the drivers in the first 30 minutes of the first practice session.
During the session, we saw Pastor Maldonado's bodywork on his Lotus coming off the car which Maldonado needed to pit in order to fix the problem.
We also saw Roberto Merhi going off at Turn 11 after locking his rear tyres up and ended up breeched in the gravel. This then brought out a red flag until Merhi's car could be safely recovered.
Sebastian Vettel also spun at Turn 11 but was able to continue running in the session and we also saw Sergio Perez, Pastor Maldonado and Marcus Ericsson exploring the limits of the track by going off but all were able to continue.
But it was Lewis Hamilton that topped the timesheets with a 1.39.790 ahead of the Ferrari driver of Kimi Raikkonen who finished the session in second place ahead of his team mate Nico Rosberg in third place.
Daniil Kvyat had a brilliant session and finished in fourth place ahead of Valtteri Bottas in fifth place, Felipe Massa in sixth place and Sebastian Vettel in seventh place. Max Verstappen ended the session in eighth place ahead of Marcus Ericsson in ninth place and Daniel Ricciardo in tenth place.
Pastor Maldonado ended the session despite locking up a few times in eleventh place ahead of Felipe Nasr in twelfth place, Sergio Perez in thirteenth place and Carlos Sainz Jr who finished the session in fourteenth place.
As we head into the latter stages of the grid, Nico Hulkenberg ended the session in fifteenth place ahead of Fernando Alonso in sixteenth place who was ahead of his team mate Jenson Button in seventeenth place, Romain Grosjean in eighteenth place and the two Manor F1 drivers of Will Stevens and Roberto Merhi who ended the session in nineteenth places and twentieth place.
