The Mahindra Formula E team is set to announce this week that former Venturi commercial head Jim Wright has joined the team starting this season.
Wright, who also works as Secretariat for the Formula E Teams, will take up his new post as Head of Commercial on the 1st January 2017 and will work in partnership with Mahindra’s Team Principal Dilbagh Gill as the Indian team looks to expand its team throughout the third season of the all-electric championship.
In recent interviews with the media, Gill has informed the media that the team are looking to expand and recruit new members that can bring much needed experience with running the team day-to day.
“We will be adding a few people to the team as we continue to grow and as the championship continues to grow,†said Gill recently.
“I can't give specific details about the new personnel yet, but we are very happy that they will be joining us because they are good people with solid experience.â€
In case you are not aware Wright is a well-known and respected motorsport industry specialist who has a proven track record in delivering commercial partners to teams. He started his racing career in the lower racing categories before embarking on a 12-year tenure as Head of Sponsorship and Marketing at the Williams F1 team from 1994.
He then worked for Gerhard Berger when the former McLaren and Ferrari f1 driver took a shareholding in the Toro Rosso team in 2006. Three years later, Wright helped to found the Virgin F1 Team in 2009 and was instrumental in ensuring the new operation was on the grid in 2010.
Since the start of the FIA Formula E Championship in 2014, Wright has been involved in a dual role as Head of Commercial at the Venturi team, during which time he helped to establish the team and signed the team's technology partnerships with ZF and ROHM, while also overseeing Formula E team association meetings.
