Jean-Eric Vergne smashes lap record of Day 5 of Formula E testing

On the fifth day of pre-season test at the Donington Park circuit today, Jean-Eric Vergne has taken the lap record back this afternoon with a blistering time of a 1:29:196 ahead of Sebastian Buemi.

This year's cars are now running eight-tenths faster than they achieved last season at Donington Park, as Lucas Di Grassi's old lap record was a 1:29:9.

The afternoon session started with most of the grid taking to the track. The e.dams drivers picked up from where they left off from the morning session, as Sebastien Buemi and Nicolas Prost were first and second in the early stages.

Robin Frijns caused the first red flag of the session, as his Andretti Formula E car stopped on track and had to be towed back to the pits.

There was a lot of work going on at Andretti to try and solve the issues that they have been having over the past couple of days with their new powertrain. Andretti have been aiming to find problems with their season three powertrain, but they might have found quite a few bugs as Frijns stopped a number of times in the afternoon session.

With the team have working hard to find the problems with their season three powertrain, but they may have found quite a few bugs as Frijns stopped a number of times in the afternoon session.

With just over an hour remaining, Mitch Evans rose to the top of the timesheets with Antonio Felix Da Costa moving into second place. But DS Virgin Racing driver Jose Maria Lopez brought out the red flag for stopping on track with 50 minutes remaining.

In the closing stages of the session, Vergne smashed Buemi's lap record by five-tenths of a second. Buemi was able to move within two-tenths of the Techeetah driver with a 1:29:370.
With the E.Dams and Techeetah teams slowly emerging as the leading duo this season, which is not surprising as they are running the same powertrain, they could be the teams to beat going into season three of the FIA Formula E Championship.
