It was announced this morning that the Jaguar Racing Formula E team have confirmed that Adam Carroll and Mitch Evans will be their Formula E race drivers for their debut season.
The announcement was made at Jaguar's heritage site, where they launched their maiden voyage into the all-electric series, which sees the first single-seater motorsport campaign for Jaguar since they left Formula One in 2004.
At the launch this morning, Carroll is delighted to driving for Jaguar this season and is looking forward to racing this season:-
“It's a real privilege to be racing for Jaguar in Formula E,†Carroll said, “You only have to look at the calibre of the other drivers in the series to see the level of competitiveness and prestige that this championship now has.
“To drive for Jaguar is also a dream come true. They are the biggest brand to come into the series and one of the most evocative names in racing.â€
Carroll completed the team's fifteen days of private testing, and all six days of public testing at Donington Park. Evans was fielded on the second day of the first test, and was brought back to drive for the entirety of the second test.
Also at the launch, Evans is delighted to be driving in the series this season; especially with Jaguar returning to motorsport:-
“Formula E is a real drivers' championship with some of the most competitive racing in the world,†said Evans.
“Any of the drivers will tell you how challenging it is to find the limit in a Formula E car and gain those extra tenths and I'm looking forward to the season ahead.â€
“Some of history's most iconic cars have been developed by Jaguar, and I'm thrilled to be part of Jaguar's electric future and our return to motorsport.â€
With both Alex Lynn and Harry Tincknell taking part in the first test, with Lynn being tipped to be a favourite for the race seat given his close connections to Williams Advanced Engineering, who are partnering with the Jaguar Formula E team.
The Briton is currently awaiting news regarding a seat at the Williams Formula One team as a replacement for Felipe Massa, who will retire at the end of the year.
The team also announced Ho-Pin Tung as reserve and development driver, as well as their title sponsor Panasonic. Lear Corportation, a global supplier of automotive seating and electric systems, has joined as a team partner. The car will be called the I-type 1.
The 2016/17 season gets underway on October 9 in Hong Kong.
