GP2 Barcelona Preview

The GP2 series continues this week at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain. This track is very familiar to most of the drivers and it's also the circuit which starts the European leg of the season.

Once again, tyres are going to play a big role during races and the drivers need to conserve their tyres wisely. The Pirelli tyre compounds for the upcoming weekend are soft and hard.

Three weeks ago in Bahrain we saw great racing and also the closest finish ever in the GP2 history, when Felipe Nasr finished the sprint race only 0,080 seconds behind the winner Sam Bird. It was also proof that saving tyres is critical as it's possible to win or lose the race based on driving style. Stefano Coletti was able to finish 3rd behind Bird and Nasr, but he was totally out of grip on the last lap.

Barcelona will be a great chance for those who haven't succeed so far this year. Last season's team champions DAMS seemed to have struggled and have had bad luck as well in the early season races, it will also be very important for James Calado to score good points this weekend or his main championship rivals will start making a points gap.

Russian Time was also showing good pace at Bahrain, but the championship top 3 Stefano Coletti, Fabio Leimer and Felipe Nasr will continue to be strong.

All three have been very consistent during the early season. Nasr is still looking for his first victory in the series and surely wants to get it from Barcelona – in Bahrain it was almost victory.
