Daniel Ricciardo quickest at another action packed second practice session in Monaco

In the second practice session in Monaco, Daniel Ricciardo set the pace ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, in a session which saw many incidents and drivers going off the circuit.

During FP2, there was several offs during the session Romain Grosjean, Rio Haryanto, Sebastian Vettel and Kevin Magnussen all made contact with the Armco during the session. Grosjean’s accident came at the notoriously tricky exit of the tunnel as his Haas snapped sideways under braking and clouted both right wheels against the barrier. He managed to make it back to the pits and the car was repaired by the second half of the session in order to complete 23 laps in total.

Haryanto’s accident was at the same part of the circuit but he came off much worse. Like Grosjean, his car snapped to the right under braking but he overcorrected the slide and pirouetted 180 degrees before hitting the barriers hard on the left. The accident left his Manor with severely damaged suspension, but the Indonesian was unhurt.

Vettel lost the rear of his Ferrari on entry to Mirabeau, spinning him through 180 degrees and causing light damage to his rear wing as he made contact with the barriers. The team was able to get his car back on track only for him to glance the barrier with his left rear tyre at Ste Devote in the final ten minutes of the session.

Magnussen’s accident came at the final corner after he locked a front wheel under braking and understeered into the barrier. It damaged his front wing, giving the Renault team another repair job after Jolyon Palmer his the barriers in FP1.

But it was Daniel Ricciardo who was fastest with a lap time of 1.14.607 ahead of Lewis Hamilton in second place who was 0.606 seconds behind him and ahead of Nico Rosberg in third place who was 0.899 seconds behind Ricciardo.

Max Verstappen finished the session in fourth place ahead of Daniil Kvyat in fifth place, Carlos Sainz Jr in sixth place, Kimi Raikkonen in seventh place, Sergio Perez in eighth place, Sebastian Vettel in ninth place and Jenson Button who rounded off the top ten finishers.

Nico Hulkenberg ended the session in eleventh place ahead of Fernando Alonso in twelfth place, Esteban Gutierrez in thirteenth place, Valtteri Bottas in fourteenth place and Romain Grosjean in fifteenth place.

As we head into the latter stages of the grid, Felipe Massa ended the session in sixteenth place ahead of Kevin Magnussen in seventeenth place, Marcus Ericsson in eighteenth place, Jolyon Palmer in nineteenth place, Felipe Nasr in twentieth place, Rio Haryanto in twenty-first place and. Pascal Wehrlein in twenty-second place.
