Marussia could be back on the grid in Abu Dhabi
It was announced yesterday that Marussia could be back on the grid at the season finale in Abu Dhabi and have reportedly lodged an entry for next year’s Championship.
Marussia did not take part in this past weekend’s United States GP and are set to miss Brazil as well after going into administration. However the team who are still ninth in the Championship thanks to Jules Bianchi’s two points from Monaco, could be back for the final race of this season.
According to Sky Sports F1’s Ted Kravitz, Marussia’s freight is ready to leave for Abu Dhabi and the team has even lodged an entry for the 2015 Championship. Kravitz stated the following during Sky Sports F1’s coverage of the United States Grand Prix coverage yesterday:-
'The positive news is that we are hearing they are targeting a return if they can sort out what they are calling their business problems – they fact is they are in administration – and get some investors on board. They are targeting coming back not only next year, but this year as well.
'I understand they have lodged an entry under Manor Grand Prix Limited for the 2015 World Championship and that they are targeting being in Abu Dhabi if they can get some solid investment in place.
'Bernie Ecclestone has said that they can come to Abu Dhabi so they are targeting that and it is thought Alexander Rossi will be the second driver alongside Max Chilton. I think theoretically they could have made it to Brazil if the money got in on time, but of course they can’t get the freight there in time.
Bernie Ecclestone is supporting the effort for the team formally known as Marussia.
'If we see them in Abu Dhabi who knows, but everything is ready to go, the freight is ready to go, the people are ready to go, the passes are ready, the flights are booked and paid for already.'
It is great to hear that Marussia could have a chance at returning to the grid in Abu Dhabi and also the fact that they have lodged a 2015 entry suggests that there are in serious talks with some investors if they get their investment behind them and in place within the team as quickly as they can.
It is clear from Kravitz's statement on the team that Ecclestone is supporting and keeping an eye on Marussia and what is going on within the team. He also appears to be convinced that if the team can come back for the final race of the season, Alexander Rossi will be Max Chilton's team mate and will finally get his Formula One debut which would be great to see.
But even though the signs are looking more promising than last week, there is still a long way to go before Marussia are back in Formula One where they belong. It would seem that they are taking the necessary steps forward to ensure that they get the back where they belong in the sport as quickly as possible. But all they can do is keep on trying to find investment that will enable them to return now and also to continue in the near future.
Marussia's focus needs to be that they get the investment that they need which will see them back on the grid now and in the near future and get themselves out of administration. And I really hope that is the case and we see Marussia take their place on the grid very soon indeed and racing in Formula One once again.
