2016 GP2 runner up Antonio Giovinazzi has completed his first test in a Formula One car since becoming a Ferrari reserve driver at the start of 2017.
He completed the test at Ferrari’s Fiorano test track and the programme included a comparison between simulator work and real-life track running.
He drove an SF15-T, the car that Sebastian Vettel drove to victory three times in 2015, in order to comply with FIA testing restrictions.
In a statement to the media today, Giovinazzi was delighted to drive the Ferrari for the first time and thanked the team for everything during the session.
“It was a wonderful feeling, as this was my first time driving a Formula One car,” he said.
“For an Italian, driving out of the pits in a Ferrari is an amazing experience. The actual testing was very interesting, with so many procedures to follow. But the guys in the team were very nice to me and extremely helpful and that made everything much easier. I’d like to thank the whole team.”
Ferrari will launch its 2017 car on February 24 before it hits the track for the first time at the start of testing on February 27. **
