Another great Techno-Classica Essen

Once again Techno -Classica Essen proved to be unbeatable as a unique show with 2700 cars on display and available to buy.

Although the majority of the cars are Left Hand Drive, an issue that is becoming less and less important as the years go by, some of the displays are simply breathtaking, and in 5 days it is still almost impossible to see everything.

This year building work in progress, reduced some of the areas for display, but that didn't dampen the enthusiasm of the visitors, this year 185000 strong, all enjoying the wide variety of parts, car clubs and exhibitors stands on offer.

The centre piece of this year's show was Grand Prix Monaco, with the original Juan Manuel Fangio Maserati 250F, Cooper T45 Mercedes-Benz F1 W196 Ferrari-Lancia D50, Lotus 18 and BRM P25.

Also this year a special “Electro mobility” exhibition with 3 cars from 1910 showing that electric cars were around even then! A modern Opel/Vauxhall Ampera-e and an 1881 Ayrton and Perry electro car allegedly the first operational electro car.

As always the Mercedes stand is a great feature, this year exhibiting the 1903 Simplex 40HP and the Mercedes-AMG GTC Roadster Edition 50 plus 17 Clubs in the adjoining area.

Every type of Porsche is on show and this year a celebration of 40 years of the 928 with some superbly presented models on show.

As usual Coys held an Auction on the Saturday, with some great cars on display with a good percentage going under the hammer. A Mercedes 300 Gullwing sold for just under 700,000 euros and my favourite a Mercedes 280 Pagoda fetching just under £100,000

Clark Gable's 300SL Roadster was on display at the H K Engineering stand, and Lamborghini Ferrari Bugatti and Alfa Romeos of all types were available to see.

The photographs attached give some indication of the quality on offer at this fabulous show. I will be back next year, make sure you follow our Instagram, facebook and Twitter feeds for all the latest news, Videos and photos.
