2016/17 Formula E Team Preview: Venturi

The Venturi Formula E team enters its third season of Formula E with high hopes of taking their first race victory in the FIA Formula E Championship.

The team and their drivers Stephane Sarrazin and Nick Heidfeld struggled in its first season and finished in ninth in the Teams' Championship only ahead of the underfunded Trulli team.

However, Sarrazin improved drastically in his second season in the series and his consistency during the year leapfrogged the team into sixth position in the Constructors' Championship. Sarrain was the only driver to score points in every race of the season.

1997 Formula One World Champion Jacques Villeneuve drove alongside him for the first three races but struggled to perform and he exited the team and the series after the Punta del Este ePrix. He was replaced by Mike Conway, who made an instant impact in Argentina when he got into Super Pole.

He failed to deliver any big results after his impressive debut qualifying, with just seven points to his name, Venturi decided not to renew the Brit's contract for Season Three.

During the latter stages of the year, Maro Engel has been brought in to replace him; the highly successful GT Racer will be one of five rookies this season and will have a tough task beating his vastly experienced teammate Stephane Sarrazin who may just have the edge on him at the end of the season.

My prediction for the Venturi team this season is that I really do think that the team will challenge at the midfield consistency during the season. I feel that this season could the year that the team get their maiden victory in the series but only if we have a really adventurous ePrix.

As for their Constructors championship position; I would say that the Venturi team will end up either fourth or fifth at the end of the season and will have a battle with Mahindra and Andretti all season long.
