2016/17 Formula E Team Preview: Dragon Racing

The FF Dragon Racing team in season 3 of the FIA Formula E Championship begins a promising partnership with Dragon Racing with Faraday Future as their title sponsor and technical partner as the two work together to push their car forward to be as competitive as it can be.

The company will look at designing software for the team as well as having their R&D team strive to find ways of developing the team's own drivetrain, the Penske 701-EV, which they will use for the first time this season before more work goes on for season four.

Driver wise, it remains the same as the last two seasons as Jerome d'Ambrosio and Loic Duval partner each other for the third consecutive season. The Brussels race in July next year will mark the 25th race since the two drivers first began working together at the Miami ePrix in season one.

For the second season in succession, they managed one race win with d'Ambrosio in Mexico City in controversial circumstances when Lucas di Grassi was disqualified for having an underweight car.

It was also the second time that d'Ambrosio had inherited a win from the Brazilian. The Belgian also stood on the podium on two other occasions after third-place finishes in Punta del Este and in the second race in London. But his team mate Duval came close, finishing fourth on four occasions.

The team finished last season fourth in the Teams' Championship behind Renault e.dams, ABT Schaeffler Audi and DS Virgin Racing. The team scored 143 points, just one less than Virgin, whom they fought hard with for position near the end of the season (and appealed the result of the London ePrix as well)

After finishing second in season two, the target for the team will surely be to get back into the top three in the championship. However my prediction for the FF Dragon Racing team this season is that I really do think that the team will challenge at the midfield consistency during the season. I feel that this season could the year that the team get their another victory in the series but only if we have a really adventurous ePrix but will challenge for podiums on a consistent basis.

As for their Constructors championship position; I would say that the Dragon Racing team will end up either fourth or fifth at the end of the season and will have a battle with Andretti all season long. But I believe that they could be the biggest surprise of the season and could even clinch third if they get themselves in the opportunity to capitalize on other team's mistakes.
